The famous batik fabric and garment manufacturing factory, Androsia, is located next to the Lighthouse Club in Fresh Creek. It has been in business since 1973 and is the center of production for the brightly colored authentic Bahamian hand-dyed cotton fabric, with designs inspired by elements found in the island's environment and Bahamian culture. The company's name, found on each yard of fabric, represents the Island of Andros and its people, known as Androsians.
Batik lessons (with prior arrangement) are offered where visitors can tour the factory, watch the artisans as they wax, cut and dye these beautifully colored fabrics, and make a 2-yard piece of batik to take home with them. Self-guided tours are available Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
An outlet store on the premises offers visitors great bargains on Androsia garments, fabric, jewelry, books, craft items, baskets, carvings, souvenirs, and more! Store hours are Monday-Wednesday (8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.), Thursday and Friday (8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.), and Saturday and Holidays (9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.). The store is closed on Sundays.
The fabric can also be purchased in stores throughout The Bahamas, and it is often incorporated into the design of household and gift items found throughout the islands. And, many authentically Bahamian restaurants will use some form of the fabric in their decor.
Seasons Open: Year Round
Persons with mobility impairments will need help accessing the Factory.

The Androsia Factory is Family-Owned and Operated. Established in 1973, their goal was to showcase the natural beauty of a then newly independent Bahamas and engage with the local community on their beautiful island of Andros through these hand made textiles. These values are still implemented into their Androsia products today with love and pride.
