Bahamian Music and Heritage Festival

11 Thumbs Up! Give your thumbs up.
Description of Event

Come to Exuma to experience one of the best cultural explosion in The Bahamas. This festival, held each year in March, features an exciting weekend of activities for the entire family: storytelling, singing, poetry reading, a Bahamian sloop exhibition (boat exhibitions), plus contests involving sugar cane peeling, onion peeling, and conch cracking. There is also a heritage corner highlighting Bahamian history, arts and crafts, as well as cuisine. Popular local and national artists perform gospel and secular music.

The festival generally runs from 12 noon until.  Locals usually attend the event during the late afternoon/early evening as this part of the day is the coolest.

Venue is the Regatta Park in George Town, nine miles from the Exuma International Airport.

Transportation to Exuma includes air and sea options. Visitors may choose to take a flight from New Providence to Exuma via any of the local airlines, including Bahamasair or SkyBahamas, or travel on the variety of international flights available.

It is recommended to overnight as most of the festivities, including the music show, start during the afternoon hours and there are no late flights leaving from the island.

Tracey wrote on August 15, 2016: My girlfriends and I will be in Exuma for the week and it just happens to fall on this weekend!! We are SO excited to experience this!! The whole trip is for our girl that beat breast cancer this year, so to find out our trip coincides with the festival is just the cherry on the sundae!!
