In 1891, The Chicago Herald, an American newspaper, erected this sphere (hewn from local limestone) in commemoration of Columbus' landfall here. A year later, the World's Fair in Chicago, Illinois, celebrated the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the New World.

This intriguing and memorable attraction is located in Crab Cay and is a favorite stop for visitors to the island.
