Orange Creek is a vast protected area, several miles long, located on the leeward coast at the tip of North Cat Island. The Creek earned its name from a natural phenomenon occurring in the Creek that causes it to have a luminescent orange glow when certain conditions are synchronized on the bottom of the water at sunset – the angle of the sun, the wind and the waves. One may see this a few times in a lifetime, but it is unforgettable and indescribable.

The name was also bestowed on the settlement or town that it sits in, which is the largest in the North and was originally comprised of three settlements: Pritchard's, Scotland, and Bain Town. After the first decades of the 1800s, pirates reportedly moved there to protect themselves from the threat of hurricanes.

Recreational Opportunities

The creek is ideal for boating and opens into a marsh that offers great bonefishing; miles of sandy white beaches have calm water for swimming, and a hiking trail leads to an oasis of nearby blue holes, plus reefs for diving and fishing
