Event Dates: November 10, 2018

About this Event

This annual charity run pays tribute to 32-year-old Pompey, the courageous slave who helped shape The Bahamas' history. He was one of the country's first national heroes, so it is only fitting that the run is held on the weekend before National Heroes Day, the second Monday in October.

After meeting in Nassau with James Carmichael Smythe, then Governor of The Bahamas, Pompey returned to Exuma. The run happened after that, in late June 1830, from Steventon to Rolle Town (approximately 55 miles). His goal was to warn the slaves that they were coming to search their houses.

Other festivities during the weekend will include a celebration of Bahamian history, culture, and sport. Funds raised will provide a scholarship to a deserving student from Exuma.
