San Andros Pond is an unprotected IBA located on North Andros. This IBA falls within the security boundary of the San Andros Airport. It comprises a small freshwater pond with associated shrubland and coppice.

Primary Species Commonly Experienced Here

This IBA supports a significant number of Vulnerable West Indian Whistling-duck Dendrocygna arborea. Other species that can be found within this IBA include the Vulnerable Bahama Swallow Tachycineta cyaneoviridis, Bahama Woodstar Calliphlox evelynae, and Bahama Yellowthroat Geothlypis rostrata.

The pond attracts a range of waterbirds, while the coppice is important for wintering Neotropical migrant landbirds.

Best Times and Seasons for Viewing

Species can be seen throughout the day. However, higher concentrations of bird species can be seen during the morning hours or late afternoon.

Access Considerations and Directions

The San Andros Pond IBA is located within the San Andros Airport's security boundary. Access is restricted within the airport boundary due to increased security measures, and the pond can only be visited by special permission. However, the area surrounding the Airport can offer good views of various wetland bird species.
