Hope Town's history dates as far back as the 1780s, and a few residents thought it was important to establish a museum to preserve the town's past and educate its youth about their origins. The entire community worked on the project and in March 1978 the museum was official opened and named after the town's founder, Wyannie Malone, who settled here from South Carolina.

You'll find something for everyone inside, and it is sure to enrich and highlight your visit to Hope Town. Discover a world of Pirates, Lucayan Indians, Rum-Runners and Wreckers: see the faces and place of yesteryear in our historic photo collection; see history come alive in manuscripts, artifacts, pottery, and china from shipwrecks; fascinating displays of ship building, hurricanes and torpedoed freighters; glimpse the past in furnished rooms with clothing, housewares, and antique household items from bygone times.

The museum plays a significant role in the community and sponsors Heritage Day every year during the month of March, which highlights events of the past through skits, songs and games. It is located near the Post Office Dock.

Seasons Open: November 1st - August 15th / Closed August 16th - October 31st

Hours Open: Monday to Saturday / 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
